  The Role of the Veterans Service Commission
  The Role of the Veterans Service Commission is to oversee the operation of the Veterans' Office; to provide temporary financial assistance to veterans, spouses, dependent children and surviving spouses; and to assist veterans in obtaining earned benefits from federal, state, and local levels of government.
  Temprorary Financial Assistance
  Emergency funds for food, housing and utilities may be provided to veterans and/or their dependents. The following is a list of required documents:
 
 
  • Discharge Paper
  •   Honorable, General, or General Under Honorable Conditions
     
     
  • Proof of Residency
  •   Rental or lease contract, mortgage statement, notarized statement of family member if living with family
     
     
  • Dependents
  •   Birth record/custody papers for minor children under the age of 18
     
     
  • Proof of Income for Last 30 Days
  •   Award letter from Social Security, VA, child support of pension fund; check stubs; statement from employer or issuing agency
     
     
  • Verification of Expenses for Last 30 Days
  •   Copies of bills paid or due; statement of account from business that was paid
      Unemployed veterans are required to be activley seeking employment and will be required to register with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services at the One Stop. Applications for financial assistance are taken Monday-Friday, 7 am to 4 pm. For more information, contact the veteran's service office..
      Transportation
      Veterans and dependents of Warren County can be transported to any local doctors office or VA medical center for their appointments. Please contact our office as soon as you receive your medical appointment. To take advantage of the of the transportaion service, proof of eligibility is required (DD214).
      Service Officers
      The Warren County Veterans' Service Commission employs service officers who can assist the veteran or his/her dependent in filling for the following VA benefits:
    • Service-connected compensations
    • Non Service-connected disability pension
    • Survivor's pension
    • Death and burial benefits
    • VA health care enrollment
    • Headstones
    • Education
    • Home loan guarantee certificates
    • Vocational rehabilitation
    • Upgrading or correcting DD Form 214
    • Any other benefits available from federal or state source. The service officer will monitor claims once they are filed and will follow through with assistance on appeals when neccessary
      Documents
      The Warren County Veterans' Office can assist the veteran or their dependent in obtaining lost documents needed to file for federal, state, or county benefits. These documents may include DD form 214, marriage licenses, divorce decrees, birth certificates, and medical records. The office will not pay for any fees needed to obtain the document.
      Medals
      Staff of the Warren County Veterans' Office can assist a veteran or their dependents in seeking copies of lost or destroyed medals.
      Mental Health
      Dayton VA Medical Center offers mental health care in Lebanon on alternate Thursdays. Contact Ray Hugger, LISW, at the Dayton VAMC for more information at (937)-268-6511 Ext. 3113.
